I know many of you like myself would be blessed with a girl child. Girls are, as it is said Daddy’s Princess and Mommy’s world! They are little angels who grow up to be our best friends. A mother’s best company is always her dear daughter. Despite all this, when it comes to raising girls it becomes a challenge for us. Specially in today’s world when on the one hand girls are proving themselves equal to men in all fields and on the other hand they also face discrimination.
Here are 10 things which I want all girls should be taught from the very beginning in order to raise them as strong individuals.
Girls must be taught to do all things themselves without being dependent on anyone. This should start from very early age; say, when your daughter starts to eat, don’t run with a spoon after her. Let her play, spoil the food but do encourage her to eat by herself. Similarly let her explore the world on her own. Don’t try to play her shadow everywhere.
Care & Compassion
Even though care & compassion are regarded as basic traits of all females still in today’s competitive world these qualities are sometimes relegated in a corner. So it’s very important that we keep teaching our girls to be caring and compassionate towards everyone. Being good human being is always more important than being successful. Neerja Bhanot isn’t remembered for being a great air hostess but for being a great human being.
Being honest is difficult. It takes great guts to take the blame and admit one’s mistake. But it’s very essential to be a strong person. So young girls must be taught to be honest in all what they do. This will also make your bond with your daughter a strong one.
Whatever religion you follow, you must make your daughter have a strong faith in that. She should be taught to pray regularly. Whenever she is in need, she should be taught to remember God. She also must be made feel thankful to God for all the blessings in her life.
Physically girls are considered to be weaker than boys. This does not mean that you should make them feel that they are weak. Instead you must tell them how different they are from boys. They are delicate and beautiful but not weak! You can give some fitness training or self-defense training to your child to make her feel strong.
Being polite is a winner’s trait. If you want your child to be a heart-winner teach her to be genuinely humble and polite to everyone. Even if you can buy all luxury for her tell her these things aren’t in everybody’s luck. There are underprivileged kids too and she should be humble to the poor.
Share the Joy
From the very beginning, you should try to remove every kinda greed from your child’s mind. She should be introduced to the joy of giving. Show her how good it feels when a person shares his things with others. Make her give away a few of her toys, clothes, cookies etc on her birthday or some other day. Show her the happiness of the kids receiving these goodies. This will encourage her to be a sharing person.
Pursue a Hobby
Every child is unique and so are their interests. Whatever be the hobby of your child you must encourage her to pursue it. Singing, dancing, cooking, painting, acting, playing some sports, or anything else whatever it is you must appreciate your child’s talent and nurture it. This will work as a strong foundation in her life. Whether she makes a career in the field of her hobby or not but this will definitely cheer her up always!
Empathise with other Girls
Generally it is seen that boys don’t have much rivalry and competition with other boys. They prove to be very good and reliable friends. But girls have high level of competition and jealousy among them. That’s why its important that we teach our young girls to empathise with other girls and understand the value of friendship. They should feel the pain of other girls and try to help them instead of ridiculing them.
Proud to be a Girl
Last but not least I wish every mother teaches her daughter how special she is. She should be proud and happy to be born as a girl. Girls are different from boys in so many ways. These differences are to be enjoyed. Differences don’t make them superior or inferior to boys but do make them special. Tell them boys in fact, this whole world is incomplete without girls. They are the daughters, sisters, girlfriends, wives, mothers without whom no boy can survive.
God has given girls a unique role to play in this world and it is our pious duty to prepare our daughters for this role. Raise them with lots of love, care and understanding; instil strength and confidence in them to face this world boldly on their own.
